The program presents about 90 video works and more than 80 authors, many of whom are internationally well known, such as Studio Azzurro, Mario Canali, Alighiero Boetti, Michelangelo Antonioni, Cipri’ e Maresco, Societas Raffaello Sanzio, Fabio Massimo Iaquone, Asia Argento, Roberta Torre, Carlo Mazzacurati, Pappi Corsicato, Fabrizio Plessi, Theo Eshetu. Originally presented as a broader version in 2001 in Rome in the prestigious spaces of the roman Aquarium, the Laboratory Museum of Contemporary Art at “La Sapienza” University, and the Municipal Gallery of Contemporary Art (later renamed MACRO), this edition of Elettroshock, designed for China (which will be firstly shown at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, then at the Guangdong Museum of Art), proposes various updates. Through a series of crossed pathways Elettroshock tells just a piece of a cultural and aesthetic adventure still not explored enough by presenting abroad works particularly interesting in the profile of experimentation. Curators of the retrospective are Bruno Di Marino – among the main Italian experts of video – and Lara Nicoli – journalist for Raitre and the paper “Europa” - in cooperation with Monica Piccioni and Rosario Scarpato from offiCina Ltd. (a cultural exchange and communication company based in Beijing 798 Factory, Dashanzi Art District). Parallel to the review, a seminar will take place with the presence of the Italian curators and Chinese experts.
