This exhibition presents both documentary and symbolic perspectives on photography. A number of significant twentieth-century artists are represented, side-by-side with emerging contemporary photographers, to illuminate some facets of our increasingly global media that parallel the history of modern art. Combined with a selection of Robert Frank's photographs from throughout his career, these works hint at the complex role played by reproducible images in the information age. Both Sides of the Street also includes a number of works on loan from private collections in order to broaden the scope of the exhibition and focus our attention on exemplary prints by important photographers.
