"The Jet as Art" Often it takes an artist to show us that the familiar is in fact truly remarkable. Jeffrey Milstein's striking photographs of commercial airliners have quickly become contemporary icons, reviewed in Men's Vogue, Conde Nast Portfolio, Libération, Russian Esquire, Die Zeit Magazine, European Photography, Eyemazing, Photomagazin, Graphis PhotoAnnual, Creative Review and released by Abrams this spring in the stunning monograph, AirCraft "The Jet as Art". Milstein's meticulously composed large format photos of airliners, often shot when a plane is flying 320 km/h directly overhead, reveal the beauty and power of these sleek, complex machines. Restoring some of the glamour to the notion of air travel and technology, this work spotlights the jet as one of man's most ubiquitous yet, until now, often overlooked works of contemporary art. Suspended in a crisp field of white, stripped of context, Milstein's vibrant planes express his sense of wonder, and the historic depth and emotional power of aircraft. The Aircraft project has grown to include corporate jets, military and antique planes, as well as helicopters and blimps. Most recently Milstein has begun accepting commissions to photograph privately owned aircraft.
