Mart Engelen born in Heerlen 1960 The Netherlands In 1980 he enrolled at University of Utrecht as a law student but switched after 2 years to follow photography classes. By coincidence he was discovered to be a model and worked professionally all over the world for a period of 6 years. In 1991 he started his career as a photographer. Soon he was working on advertising commisions for clients such as PHILIPS, CANON, CITIGROUP as well as commercial editorials for international magazines like: Esquire, George, Interview, Vanity Fair and many others. During his period in New York 1997-2001 he specialized in portraits. As a portrait photographer he captured many celebrities in the world of fahion, business, movies among whom: Woody Allen, Roberto Cavalli, Morgan Freeman, Richard Branson. In 2007 he joins GALLERY PHOTO4. His first exhibition in Paris of Mart Engelen "Moments" Gallery PHOTO4 will show 25 Silver gelatin prints out of 3 books: BIARRITZ, MEMORIES and MY DOG AAPJE published between 2003 and 2006. Mart Engelen est né en 1960 à Heerlen (Pays-Bas). En 1980 après des études de droit, Mart Engelen suit des cours de photographie, et devient modèle, presque par hasard, pendant 6 ans, il voyage alors autour du monde et fait connaissance avec de nombreux photographes. En 1991, il commence sa carrière de photographe indépendant, pour la mode (Marie-Claire, Elle, Esquire...) ainsi que pour la publicité (Sony, Citygroup, Philips...). De 1997 à 2001, Mart Engelen vit à New York, ou il réalise de nombreux portraits (Woody Allen, Roberto Cavalli, Morgan Freeman, Giorgio Armani...). En 2007, Mart Engelen rejoint la galerie PHOTO4. Actuellement, il vit et travaille entre Amsterdam et Maastricht. La première exposition parisienne de Mart Engelen Moments sera composée d'une sélection de 25 tirages argentiques, de différents formats, tous reproduits dans les trois ouvrages, Biarritz, Memories et My Dog Aapje publiés entre 2003 et 2006.
