"La-condition-japonaise", a curational team based in Berlin whose aim is the presentation of contemporary japanese art in Germany and Europe is planning a show with Yamamoto Masao, a renown japanese photographer, in october 2008. In the U.S the works of Yamamoto are already appreciated and last year they became noted also in europe. The artist - born in 1957 - has made until now 1500 artworks, which are all made in most precise handwork. Both the artworks, but also their presentation as a installation is part of his "complete artwork". In the nineties he showed "Box of Kuu" in Tokyo, San Francisco, New York and Santa Monica. In 2000 he presented a installative show called "Nakazora" and "e". The pictures are not large sized, but in a size, which fits on one hand. Thus the viewer can take the artworks in his/her own hands, they are interactive. Yamamoto made also sculptures/installations where the viewer could choose the display of the artworks by shaking some small box. On his works there are untouched - innocent landscapes of nature with mountains, flowers, waterfalls, beaches, sealandscapes, trees, fogs, hills, stones, animals, but also shadows of humans. The viewer doesn't seem to see the pictures as real landscapes but as morphologies in our dreams. The pictures are passed, but also very present and due to their visual arrangement there will emerge new personal narrations. This is the real power of the artworks of Yamamoto: They make dreams possible, which is the real enjoyment of yamamoto's artworks. He thinks that those moments of luck must be like to moment of enjoyment, when somebody has written a nice Haiku (typical japanese genre of poetry). Yamamoto wants that the viewer doesn't try to understand the installation itself, but that it will be viewed like a landscape. He is not very wordily, when it comes to describe his artworks, but interestingly he uses words from japanese zen-buddhism as titles for his shows. The basis of his art concepts are thus in the realm of zen-buddhism. The title of his current show is "KAWA = flow". It is about the world where we are and the world where we go in the future.

Das Kuratorenteam "la-condition-japonaise", deren Ziel es ist zeitgenössische japanische Kunst in Deutschland und Europa vorzustellen, präsentiert Yamamoto Masao, einen schon international bekannten Fotografen, in einer Einzelausstellung im Oktober 2008. Die fotografischen Werke Yamamotos werden in den USA bereits gewürdigt und sind letztes Jahr auch in Europa bekannt geworden. Der Künstler ist 1957 geboren und hat bereits 1500 Kunstwerke geschaffen. Deren Abzüge werden vom Künstler eigenhändig durch sorgfältigster Präzisionsarbeit hergestellt. Sowohl die Kunstwerke an sich als auch deren Präsentation in einer Installation sind Teil seines Gesamtkunstwerkes. In den 90er Jahren stellte er in Tokio, San Francisco, New York, Santa Monica, Portland die Ausstellung "Box of Kuu" (Luft-Schachtel) aus. Im Jahre 2000 hat er eine installative Ausstellung mit dem Titel "Nakazora" (Himmel im Drinnen) und "e" präsentiert. Die Fotos sind nicht im Großformat, sondern in einer Größe hergestellt, dass sie in die Hand genommen werden können. Dadurch kann der Betrachter die Werke in seine eigenen Hände erfassen - er kann die Werke interaktiv begreifen. Yamamoto hat auch Foto-Skulpturen in der Form eines Behälters gemacht, wo der Betrachter die Bilder selber durch Schütteln auswählen kann. Auf seinen Bildern sind unangetastete - unschuldige Naturlandschaften wie Berge, Blumen, Wasserfälle, Seeufer, Meerlandschaften, Bäume, Nebel, Hügel, Gesteine oder Tiere, aber auch Schatten von Menschen zu sehen. Gründe für die große Beliebtheit der Bilder von Yamamoto und seine Anerkennung als beeindruckenden Künstler sind vor allem auf das Phänomen der aktiven Rezeption zurückzuführen. Die Betrachter sehen, das Bild nicht als eine reale Landschaft von Yamamoto, sondern als eine imaginäre Traum und Seelen-landschaft: Die Bilder sind vergangen, aber zugleich auch sehr präsent. Durch ihre Anordnung werden auch eigene Narrationen sichtbar. Die Ermöglichung von freien Assoziationen ist die eigentliche Kraft der Bilder von Yamamoto. Diese soll den wahren Genuss der Bilder von Yamamoto auslösen, den er sich ähnlich wie den Glücksmoment, der beim Haiku (spezielle japanische Gedichtsform) erdenken entsteht, vorstellt. Yamamoto möchte, dass die BetrachterIn die Installation nicht als solche zu verstehen versucht, sondern diese als Landschaft versteht. Er ist nicht so wortreich, wenn es um seine Kunst geht, aber benutzt interessanterweise oft Begriffe aus dem japanischen Buddhismus als Ausstellungstitel. Es kann deshalb behauptet werden, dass die Basis seines Kunstbegriffs im Buddhismus liegt. Der Titel der aktuellen Ausstellung lautet: "KAWA=flow". Dabei geht es um die Welt in der wie jetzt gerade sind und um die Welt die auf uns zukommt.
