smash the ghetto by DEMOCRACIA and solo projects by MASLEN & MEHRA, DANIEL CANOGAR and LI WEI Parallel to this solo show the gallery is presenting individual projects by the artists Maslen & Mehra, Daniel Canogar and Li Wei. Maslen & Mehra are exhibiting their latest installation which emulates the free-standing military recruitment office at Times Square, New York. It includes the giant neon flag on the side of the building and the similar placement of the screen on the front of the structure. The artists work can also be seen at PIca Parallel "Silver - Artrage 25", Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (until Nov. 23, 2008). The artists will be present for the book signing of their first monograph. Daniel Canogar, who is no newcomer to the scene, most recently shown at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, sought inspiration in Andrea Pozzo's masterpiece painting in the church of St. Ignatius in Rome. The allegory of the Apotheosis of St. Ignatius with hundreds of figures in illusory perspective is similarly represented in a fiber optic technology project by the artist. The chinese artist Li Wei started off his venturesome performances with the series "Mirroring" and later on with "Falls". His work is a mixture of performance art and photography that creates illusions - often on the basis of dangerous acrobatic ventures. His work is also currently exhibited at the Taiwan Yeh Rong Jia Culture & Art Foundation. Furthermore his work can be seen in the upcoming show "Drawn in the Clouds: Contemporary Asian Art", Museum of Contemporary Art KIASMA, Helsinki (Oct. 31, 2008 until Feb. 1, 2009).
