From April 25 to June 6, 2009, CAMERA WORK will exhibit works of photographer Russell James in the gallery's showrooms. The 61 photographs that will be on display will reveal the major influence his homeland Australia has played in his body of work. Inspired by very specific shapes and lighting unique to Australia, Russell James has translated this influence through his nude, portrait and fashion photographed in Cuba, The Caribbean, South America and many other regions of the world often resulting in dream-like pictures set against paradisiacal landscapes. In the exhibition, powerful natural landscapes are often contrasted with portraits of Heidi Klum, Gisele Bündchen, Scarlett Johansson, Adriana Lima and many of the most stunning beauties of our time. Furthermore, James' allows us a privileged intimate view into the lascivious hectic rush behind the scenes of the legendary fashion shows of Victoria's Secret. The exhibit will also feature a preview Russell James's project of passion "Nomad. Two Worlds", that is his emotional study of the conflict between the world's oldest surviving culture, the Australian aboriginals and the modern culture that arrived there some two hundred years ago. James formed collaboration with aboriginal artists and has undertaken journeys with them that follow the tracks of their cultural past. In the process James has created mystical pictures of culturally significant sites, compelling submarine shots of swimmers who dive like mermaids through opal-blue seas clay-covered images of Heidi Klum, Rachel Roberts and other well known models as personalized symbols for the conflicted cultures, ancient and modern, The works of Russell James have appeared in magazines such as Vogue, Marie Claire, W and GQ. Australian, born in 1962, James has lead an eventful career path that began on the assembly line of a factory making trash cans and went on to include becoming a dog trainer, a police officer in a special unit and also as a model before eventually experiencing his breakthrough as a photographer at the age of 34 in New York. Den Landschaften werden in der Ausstellung Porträts von Heidi Klum, Gisele Bündchen oder Scarlett Johansson gegenübergestellt. Zahlreiche Photographien zeigen makellos schöne Frauen geborgen in der Natur. Darüber hinaus fängt Russell James die laszive Hektik, während einer der legendären Modenschauen von Victoria's Secret, in einer Serie von Photographien ein. Russell James' Projekt "Nomad.
