For contemporary photographers flowers are a perfect symbol of beauty and the transitoriness of life. The exhibition BEAUTY presents exceptional and fascinating works by eleven international artists. The focus is rather on abstract reproductions of nature than on botanical studies. Thomas Floerschütz examines flowers in the same way as with human bodies. Vera Mercer changes the colours of the flowers digitally after capturing them; Luzia Simons develops her own method of documentation: she scans flowers with an incredible three dimensional end result. Michael Wesely uses time exposure to observe the slowly shrivelling of a tulip bouquet. Matthias Harder (1965) is, since 1995, a freelance curator who has been responsible for worldwide exhibitions of contemporary art and photography. Since 2004 he has been curating at the Stately Museum for Photography / Helmut Newton-Foundation in Berlin.Furthermore he regularly publishes essays in international art magazines, books and catalogues. The exhibition is part of the series "ART FROM EUROPE" initiated by Alexander Ochs and generously supported by the Embassy of Germany in China. Curated by Matthias Harder, Chief curator Helmut Newton Foundation, Museum of Photography – Berlin State Museums/Helmut Newton Foundation. Matthias Harder will also join the opening of the exhibition.
