RAPHAËL DALLAPORTA - PROTOCOLE It is with special attention that the Musée de l’Elysée has been following the career of the French photographer Raphaël Dallaporta (1980), who five years ago was included in the reGeneration exhibition. His talent came to the fore in 2004 with his ‘Antipersonnel’ series. His images of landmines, which are characterized by meticulous detail, gave rise to both fascination and repulsion. In 2006, he continued his work with the ‘Esclavage domestique’ series (Domestic Slavery), which portrays the ordinary facades of the dwellings of illegal domestic workers. The photographer has chosen to keep his distance from the victims who are not portrayed, reflecting the hidden life of these mistreated people who could be our neighbours. The ‘Fragile’ series, which dates from 2010, is part of a similar approach,: the organs of dead people are put aside – like evidence – to determine the cause of death. Again, the object is documented from the front and at a distance. The strength of Dallaporta’s work arises from the confrontation of ‘neutral’ images and texts dealing with human suffering. Human beings are absent from Dallaporta’s photographs and yet they are central to his work. Following a policy aiming at supporting young artists, the Musée de l’Elysée has decided to acquire a large collection of photographs by Raphaël Dallaporta and organise his first solo exhibition at the Museum. A monograph will be published by Xavier Barral publishers (Paris) in parallel with the exhibition.
