Le titre de l'exposition pourrait être traduit par Simulacre et vraisemblance, en référence aux thématiques chères à l'artiste Eva Lauterlein (1977, CH / DE ; vit entre Berlin et Vevey), qui a suivi la formation supérieure au CEPV.
"Mainly by using the genre of the portrait I explore the boundaries between reality and our perception in the photography. My images question the conventional rules of the genre by placing itself somewhere in between the truth and what we believe to be true. By destroying the traditional conventions of portraiture, my photographs operate as a trap for the spectator in a way. I like to bring the spectator to believe he is seeing something real at first, only to make him doubt what he is seeing.
In my portrait series one can find models with avoiding, fleeting and inexpressive gazes, or models who simply hide their faces. They reveal nothing or very little of themselves and identifying them is difficult. Somehow they are dehumanized through the photographic process (chimères) or through the stories they are linked to (Vraisemblance), or somehow their original identity is lost. The work almost becomes a shadowed mirror. The boundaries of our perception appear. Our eyes are interfaces limited both in the way we see the image, and limited in the way we comprehend it. To define a form of reality we use codes, rules and schemes – they help us to apprehend the world. I attempt to deconstruct these so as to provoke the spectator to perceptually reconstruct the world. "

Den schweiziska konstnären Eva Lauterlein befinner sig i opposition mot det konventionella fotografiska porträttet. Istället för att skildra modellen med en enstaka bild skapar hon sina gestalter genom att utgå från ett flertal bilder vilka läggs samman - morphas - i en digital process. Ansikten förändras, anletsdrag förlängs, förkortas, förskjuts - ofta på ett diskret sätt så att resultaten ger betraktaren en vag känsla av att något inte stämmer. Eva Lauterleins sammanfogade ansikten kan läsas som en korrigering till de idealiserade, plastiskt kirurgiska och digitalt manipulerade människofantasier som dagligen möter oss i modeindustrin och i våra kollektiva önskedrömmar. Istället framhåller Eva Lauterlein det abnorma; störningen och avvikelsen.

Galerie Wagner + Partner freut sich die erste umfangreiche Soloausstellung von Eva Lauterlein in Schweden anzukündigen. „Sken och Sannolikhet“ – Erscheinung und Wahrscheinlichkeit – zeigt alte und neue Arbeiten und hinterfragt die traditionelle Sichtweise von Portraits. Eva Lauterlein (*1977) konstruiert Portraits aus vielen verschiedenen Einzelaufnahmen. Man könnte von einer Art fotografischem Kubismus sprechen. Sie bearbeitet und verschmelzt die Bilder so, dass befremdliche Gestalten entstehen, deren Mimik schwer zu deuten ist und die vertraute Wahrnehmung von Fotografie versagen lässt. „Was Eva Lauterleins Bilder so faszinierend macht, ist die Ununterscheidbarkeit von Hier und Nirgendwo, die verunsichernde Nachbarschaft des gänzlich Wahrscheinlichen und völlig Unwahrscheinlichen. Alles an diesem Werk ist Wirkung. Subtile Wirkung, ohne dass man die Ursache wirklich kenne.“ Christoph Tannert
