Christian von Alvensleben already started collecting the leftovers of today’s consumer goods washed up from the sea onto the beaches of the Island of Rhodes in 2003 and finally photographed them under studio conditions.

The subject of these works is the flotsam and jetsam of society presented in perfect aesthetics, the debris that results from quenching the needs of the high-speed era: SeaFruit – the inedible remains of the society of abundance.

Christian von Alvensleben leads the observer to the frontier of the unusual. Thus it is not the shape or degree of decay of the refuse that is significant, but the context of an aesthetic difference. Something that has been disposed of at the end of the consumption chain of our throwaway society reappears in the interspace of art in a new range of values. The objects are being re-declared. Von Alvensleben is pointing the way through the alienation of his objects, which nature and the course of time have also played a part in shaping, giving the stranded goods of society a mishandled appearance and bestowing a new beauty on them.

In the light of these pictures of the powers of survival and nature’s power of change, human beings are left on the side of the weak and the losers in their attempts to tame and exploit nature and make it useful for mankind. Nature is a world power as is being demonstrated frequently and to an increasingly obvious extent by hurricanes, volcanic eruptions and floods. The task of art is to acquaint us with this.

And now these finds – expertly produced as works of art – are being presented as large-format photographs (3 x 3 meters) in an Open Air Installation on the beach in Zingst on the Baltic Sea.

Christian von Alvensleben: MEERESFRÜCHTE
Open-Air-Installation am Ostseestrand

Bereits 2003 hat Christian von Alvensleben die vom Meer an die Strände der Insel Rhodos gespülten Reste heutiger Gebrauchsgüter zu sammeln begonnen und schließlich unter Studiobedingungen aufgenommen.

Gegenstand dieser Arbeiten sind die in der perfekten Ästhetik dargestellten Relikte der Zivilisation, Müll als Resultat des Stillens von Bedürfnissen des Hochgeschwindigkeitszeitalters: MeeresFrüchte – der unessbare Fund der Überflussgesellschaft.

Christian von Alvensleben führt den Betrachter an die Grenze des Ungewohnten. So ist nicht Form oder Zersetzungsgrad eines Müllobjektes von Bedeutung, sondern der Kontext einer ästhetischen Differenz. Was am Ende der Konsumkette unserer Wegwerfgesellschaft entsorgt worden ist, taucht im Zwischenraum der Kunst in einem neuen Wertespektrum wieder auf. Die Gegenstände werden umdeklariert. Als Zeichen setzt von Alvensleben die Verfremdung seiner Objekte, an denen Natur und Zeit eigene Prägung hinterlassen, dem Strandgut der Zivilisation einen misshandelten Anblick bereiten und eine neue Schönheit verleihen.

Angesichts dieser Bilder von den Überlebenskräften und der Wandlungsmacht der Natur bleibt der Mensch mit seinen Versuchen die Natur zu bändigen und auszubeuten und sie sich nützlich zu machen auf der Seite des Schwächeren und Unterlegenen. Die Natur ist eine Weltmacht und - zunehmend offenbar - zeigt sie uns das auch: orkanartig, Feuer speiend und überflutend. Die Kunst hat die Aufgabe des Näherbringens.

Jetzt werden die – künstlerisch meisterhaft umgesetzt – Funde als großformatige Fotografien (3x3 Meter) am Zingster Strand als Open-Air-Installation zur Schau gestellt.
