The London Street Photography Festival launches on 1 July and runs until 31 July with 12 exhibitions and twice as many workshops and events at London's finest venues including Tate Modern, National Portrait Gallery, the British Library and St Pancras International. The London Street Photography Festival is an exciting new event in London’s cultural calendar which champions contemporary street photographers, honors past masters and provides a space for discussion, debate and appreciation of the current relevance of this time-honored genre.
Street photography captures people and places within the public domain and can be defined as “un-posed, un-staged photography which captures, explores or questions contemporary society and the relationships between individuals and their surroundings.”

VIVIAN MAIER: A Life Uncovered
The festival is delighted to present the first UK exhibition of Chicago nanny VIVIAN MAIER. The exhibition contains 48 images as well as 8mm films made by the artist in one of London's best kept secrets, the German Gymnasium.
The exhibition runs from 1 to 31 July 2011. Visitor information

"Chicago nanny Vivian Maier died in 2009, leaving behind 100,000 negatives that no one but she had ever seen. Her work was discovered by chance, and now the photographs she took on her days off are being hailed as 'ranking up there' with the best in 20th-century street photography" - Hermione Hoby, the Guardian newspaper

WALTER JOSEPH – Street Markets of London in the 1940s
