DESIREE DOLRON / SELECTED WORKS
{Suite} Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of selected works from Desiree Dolron’s Te dí todos mis sueños (2002-3) and Xteriors (2001 – today) series.
The extensive reportage that Dolron made in 2002 in deprived areas of Cuba (Te dí todos mis sueños), testify to a sharp and independent eye for the visual value of circumstances encountered on the spot. Although she does not keep herself apart from the life in the communities she visits, her photographs cannot be called journalistic. Dolron’s reportages are not a complete story, but a succession of discrete moments selected for their power of expression and atmosphere.
In the Xteriors series Dolron shows her devotion to painting by giving her anonymous models a semblance of the Flemish Primitives and Johannes Vermeer. The serenity and enigma that these painters managed to convey in their work is masterfully re-interpreted by the photographer. Dolron’s portraits use light, shadow and subte digital manipulation to describe form and create mood.
Born Haarlem, the Netherlands in 1963, Dolron's work is held by, amongst others, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, Victoria and Albert Museum, London, Museo Nacional Reina Sofia, Madrid and Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam.
