Ahmet Ertug - MONUMENTA

Polka Galerie is pleased to exhibit the works of the Turkish photographer Ahmet Ertug. Architect by training, Ahmet Ertug takes pictures of monuments which are steeped in history. “Serenity and power of the picture” are the key words of his aestheticism.

Taken with a view camera, Ertug's monumental photographs play on shadows and lights. They unveil the soul of these places full of meaning. For this first exhibition, Polka Galerie shows two series: "Hagia Sophia", majestic pictures of the old basilica Saint Sophia in Istanbul, and "Palaces of Music", the photographer's latest production, a study of opera houses around the world.

Saint Sophia, also called Hagia Sophia, means the “divine wisdom”. It is a masterpiece of the Byzantine architecture. By photographing the interior, the details, and the evolution of its monumental restoration, Ahmet Ertung paid it an outstanding tribute. Today, the whole series is permanently exhibited at the basilica, now a museum.

The Opera Garnier in Paris magnified by crafted trims, chandeliers and the ceiling painting by Marc Chagall, is solemn. Through the photographs of Ahmet Ertug, the auditorium and the foyer of the Parisian Opera become real icons.


Ahmet Ertug - Monumenta

La galerie Polka est heureuse de présenter les travaux du photographe turc Ahmet Ertug. Architecte de formation, Ahmet Ertug photographie les monuments qui ont une histoire. « Sérénité et force de l’image » sont les maîtres mots de son esthétique.

Prises à la chambre, les photographies monumentales d’Ertug jouent des ombres et des lumières. Elles dévoilent l’âme de ces lieux chargés de sens. Pour cette première exposition, la galerie Polka présente deux séries: Hagia Sophia, les images majestueuses de l’ancienne basilique Sainte-Sophie d’Istanbul, et Palaces Of Music, la dernière production du photographe sur les opéras du monde.

Sainte-Sophie ou Hagia Sophia, la « sagesse divine », est l’un des chefsd’oeuvre de l’architecture byzantine. En photographiant l’intérieur, ses détails, et l’évolution de sa monumentale restauration, Ahmet Ertug lui a rendu un magnifique hommage. L’ensemble de la série est par ailleurs exposé tout au long de l’année dans l’enceinte même de la basilique devenue musée.

Les coulisses de l’Opéra Garnier sont solennelles : ses dorures, son plafond repeint par Marc Chagall, ses lustres. Les photographies de l’auditorium et du foyer de l’Opéra parisien, sous l’oeil d’Ahmet Ertug, deviennent de véritables icônes.
