Alice in Wonderland will enter the record books as the largest contemporary photography exhibition ever staged in Finland. Finnish art has been making waves on the world scene and this exhibition will set it in the proper international context. Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland discovers a strange new world after tumbling down a rabbit hole. The twisted logic of that world continues to be a source of fascination for the visual artists of our time. Alice in Wonderland showcases man-made worlds, bears witness to distorted proportions and depicts the individual face-to-face with an absurd world.

The wonderland of photography is a fantasy, but it is also a wasteland, discarded people. The wonderland is the internet, where people can be themselves or be someone else. The exhibition poses a number of highly pertinent questions. Why are we so fascinated by the private when it is made public in the social media? How did women become girls and men become boys? With the world and photography now globalised, how can the personal be political?

Alice is the protagonist. Alice is the updated profile. Alice is the bit-part player in the sidelines.

Alice in Wonderland exhibition will be displayed at the Logomo building in more than 1000 m2. The exhibition is curated by the editor-in-chief, curator Sheyi Bankale (UK), art historians Anna-Kaisa Rastenberger and Elina Heikka. The exhibition is produced by Tiina Rauhala / The Finnish Museum of Photography. Along the exhibition will be published a catalogue in three languages and a pedagogical programme. The exhibition is curated and produced by the standards of sustainable development.
