Michael Najjar
New work by the artist at Arco Madrid 2012

Galeria Juan Silió
stand: 10 B 01 (Hall 10)
15. - 19. Februar 2012

The beginning of this decade is now seeing the dawn of a new space age. After some twenty years of steady advances in space applications - but with no major breakthroughs and no sensational events like the moon landing - we have now reached a time when research in space technologies and an emergent commercial space market are entering a phase of unprecedented development which will bring dramatic changes to the world we live in.

Michael Najjar´s work series "outer space" is a long-term project that investigates the impact of new space technologies on our society.
Artistically speaking, its aim is the creation of a future scenario of human society on earth in space and on distant planets. The starting point for this extensive body of work will be Najjar´s collaboration with NASA and other international space agencies, private space companies, and aeronautic research institutes and foundations.

Michael Najjar will be the first artist in space. He recently has signed a contract with Richard Branson´s Virgin Galactic and is now part of that exclusive group of pioneer astronauts, the first to fly into space as soon as Virgin Galactic starts operations. His spaceflight is scheduled for 2013 and will be a centerpiece of his new "outer space" work series.

Galeria Juan Silió is proud to present the first artwork of the new series.

Additionally Michael Najjar´s sculptural piece data arrow, which is based on a photograph from the mclaren formula1 racecar, will be presented for the first time to the public.
