This publication presents work inspired by the short story, Nausea 1979 by Haruki Murakami. The book was edited by Alice Rose George, contains 136 pages with images in both black & white and color and is printed with the accompanying short story by Murakami.

The publication contains works by 15 photographers currently enrolled in the Hartford Art School’s International Limited Residency Master of Fine Art in Photography program, they are: Adam Long, Chikara Umihara, Dagmar Kolatschny, Daniel Claus Reuter, Geoffrey Ellis, Ira Wagner, Michael Dalton II, Morgan Ashcom, Nicholas Silberfaden, Scot Dalton, Sebastian Collett, Andrew Todd, Zack Zoll, Rafael D’Alo, Felipe Russo. All artists will be present at this event.

The Hartford Art School, University of Hartford is proud to introduce the first international limited-residency Master of Fine Art program in Photography. This program is designed for both mature individuals with established experience in the field as well as recent graduates who wish to further their own practice and acquire an MFA degree in order to facilitate their professional credentials as artists and educators. It differentiates itself from existing programs in that the new program is an International limited-residency program.

The program couples intensive on-campus sessions during the summer with a travel component in the spring and fall. The 3 summer sessions meet at the University of Hartford for 2-weeks, during which students and faculty interact inside and outside the classroom. The fall and spring sessions meet at off-site locations (New York City, Berlin, and other sites) for 7-10 days. In the time between classroom sessions, students complete course assignments and maintain regular contact with their Thesis Advisor. The total time to the MFA is 25 months, of which only 10-12 weeks are spent away from your studio.

The program is a full 60 credit curriculum of study and allows students the opportunity to study in the program while still residing in their home countries the majority of the time. Our approach offers a “blended learning model” — research, independent study, and online critiques - with on-site classroom learning. Our faculty includes: Doug DuBois, Mary Frey, Dr. Jörg Colberg, Robert Lyons, Alice Rose George, Alec Soth, Hellen Van Meene, Michael Schäfer and Ute Mahler.

The roster of faculty and visitors will include well-known professors, curators, gallerists, and others in the field of photography from the USA, Europe, Asia and elsewhere. The emphasis of the program is for students to produce a strong body of work with an accompanying publication and to inform the students of the pedagogical forms/methods that can be used in teaching photography.
