Observations
Raphaël Dallaporta

The goal of Observation is to bring the various series works by Raphaël Dallaporta into perspective - in particular, Antipersonnel, Domestic Slavery, Fragile and Ruins - by invoking resonances, juxtapositions and echoing. Raphaël Dallaporta borrows in equal measure from the practices of contemporary art and the modus operandi of documentary photography to produce works that deal with characteristic manifestations of certain features of contemporary society. Underlying each of these series is an encounter – chance or voluntary – between the artist and professionals highly involved at a practical level in the activities under consideration. Bomb disposal experts, lawyers, forensic specialists, archaeologists… all bring to Raphaël Dallaporta's projects a factual framework wherein the artist inventories, collects, questions and exchanges… in a balanced working process that subtly counterplays artistic freedom with attention to, and respect for, the related facts. The many tensions, questionings and reactions that enrich the work and its comprehension unfold in this keen rapport between the protagonists at the root of the projects, the audience to whom they are addressed and the artist's creative approach.

Raphaël Dallaporta

Observations a pour objet de mettre en perspective les différentes séries de Rapahël Dallaporta : Antipersonnel, Esclavages domestiques, Fragile, Ruines, en convoquant résonances, juxtapositions, mises en écho.

Raphaël Dallaporta emprunte tout autant aux pratiques de l’art contemporain qu’au modus operandi de la photographie documentaire pour produire des œuvres qui traitent de manifestations caractéristiques de certains traits de notre société contemporaine.

À l’origine des séries, des rencontres, fortuites ou suscitées, entre l’artiste et des professionnels impliquées très concrètement dans les faits abordés.

Démineurs, juristes, médecin légistes, archéologues, … tous apportent aux projets de Raphaël Dallaporta un cadre factuel dans lequel l’artiste recense, collecte, s’interroge, échange … dans un processus de travail où se confronte, dans un subtil équilibre, la liberté du créateur et le respect et l’attention porté aux faits relatés. C’est dans ce rapport entre acteurs à l’origine des projets, le public auquel s’adresse le travail et la démarche de l’artiste, que prennent corps les tensions, les questionnements, les réactions qui enrichissent l’œuvre et sa compréhension.
