f/16 Summer School – Photography with the professionals

Taking, creating and talking about photographs – the f/16 Summer School offers photography enthusiasts the chance to submerse themselves in Berlin for two weeks in the world of photography. In workshops, on excursions, in the studio and in the darkroom – and in an exhibition of their own pictures.

Side-by-side with professional photographers, like-minded people from all over the world can experiment and discover special places in Berlin through the camera. The city's history is experienced in its sights through the viewfinder - for example the impressive architecture of the Jewish Museum by Libeskind or the exciting atmosphere of the racecourse at Hoppegarten.

Whether it's digital or analogue, colour or black and white, artistic or documentary photography – each participant can create their own course plan out of the comprehensive programme on offer. Architectural photography, studio portraiture and image editing are all available, as well as darkroom work and studio lighting.

Together the participants will explore, experiment and discuss every stage of the process – and between the workshops there will be enough time for individual advice about the own portfolio or technical details. By the way the studios and the darkroom can be independently used. As a highlight at the end of the Summer School the participants will be able to curate the exhibition of their own pictures, with a jointly developed concept the work will be presented its best possible light. The viewing will finally bring the Summer School to a close – with conversations about the photographic work that has taken place over the previous weeks.

The Berlin f/16 Schule für Fotografie offers a wide range of courses on the foundations and various genres of photography. A team of international photographers combining professional practice and teaching experience share their expertise in day release, weekend and evening courses. The courses are aimed at amateur photographers and at those looking for an artistic challenge or aiming to set themselves up on a professional basis. The course programme is supplemented by exhibitions, lectures and individual advice.


f/16 Summer School – Fotografieren mit den Profis

Fotografieren, gestalten, diskutieren - in der f/16 Summer School können sich Fotografiebegeisterte vierzehn Tage lang in Berlin intensiv mit der Fotografie beschäftigen. In Workshops, auf Exkursionen, im Studio, in der Dunkelkammer - und in einer Ausstellung der eigenen Bilder.

An der Seite von professionellen Fotografinnen und Fotografen wird unter Gleichgesinnten aus der ganzen Welt experimentiert, werden die besonderen Orte Berlins mit der Kamera entdeckt. Durch den Sucher wird die Geschichte der Stadt anhand ihrer Sehenswürdigkeiten erlebt - wie beispielsweise die eindrucksvolle Architektur von Libeskinds Jüdischem Museum und die spannungsreiche Atmosphäre der Galopprennbahn Hoppegarten.

Ob digital oder analog, farbig oder schwarz/weiß, künstlerisch oder dokumentarisch - jeder Teilnehmer kann sich aus dem umfangreichen Programm einen eigenen Kursplan zusammenstellen. Architekturfotografie, Studioporträt und Bildbearbeitung stehen ebenso zur Auswahl wie Dunkelkammer und Studiolicht.

Gemeinsam werden die Arbeitsschritte kennengelernt, wird experimentiert und diskutiert - und zwischen den Workshops bleibt genug Raum für individuelle Beratung zu der eigenen Mappe oder Kamerafragen. Auch die Studios und die Dunkelkammer können eigenständig genutzt werden.

Als Höhepunkt können die Teilnehmer am Ende der Summer School als Kurator der Ausstellung ihrer eigenen Bilder agieren; mit einem gemeinsam erarbeiteten Ausstellungskonzept werden die eigenen Arbeiten bestmöglich in Szene gesetzt. Auf der Vernissage klingt die Summer School langsam aus - im Gespräch über die Fotoarbeiten der vergangenen Wochen.

Die Berliner f/16 Schule für Fotografie bietet ein breites Angebot zu Grundlagen und verschiedenen Genres der Fotografie. In Wochenend- und Abendkursen vermittelt ein Team von internationalen Fotografen, die berufliche Praxis mit didaktischer Erfahrung verbinden, ihr Fachwissen. Die Kurse richten sich an Amateurfotografen und an Interessierte, die eine künstlerische Herausforderung suchen oder eine berufliche Perspektive anstreben.
