Ira Bordo - NO RUSH
21/09/2012 – 30/10/2012
Something about the human
We don’t praise a photographer for feeling the light as we don’t admire an actor for memorizing so well words from a script. Nevertheless, there are actors who make the words sound like their own and photographers who capture heavenly beautiful light the source of which we can only guess. Ira Bordo approaches the light confidently and bravely - like a child to a big dog – and tames it completely.
In the series of photographs “No rush” her experienced vision along with the sense of light has become almost ascetic. Bordo denies postproduction as one of the most essential counterpoints of modern photography and exposes a subtle but vivid layer of a picture to display. Ira Bordo, well-known in glamorous fashion community, stands out with non-technical, artistic aesthetics of her work. Along with stylists and make-up artists she performs miracles that can be considered pure art. No picture of hers was touched by postproduction methods. Watching one picture after another, a fresco is formed in our minds. We see a magic alchemy of genuine faces, thoughts, tissues and stories gathered by a thoughtful view of the photographer. Naturally beautiful faces of the models emphasize otherworldly plastic and spirit of the pictures. There is inevitable but relevant association with early Renaissance when saints acquired earthly fitures and gods began to resemble humans or late Middle Ages of Vermeer and Rembrandt when poor décor without tables full of poultry was compensated by sensibility and intensity of even not-so-perfect features. A look inward, natural head position, minimal and precise entourage are more than enough to complete the image.
«No rush» is Bordo's the most successful attempt to capture her own artistic identity in a stream of fashion photostories. If removing all the brands and make-up, there will be pure Ira Bordo's style with a charismatic person in the centre of author's attention. Then come nudity, draping and perfectly chosen shot where eternity is caught along with actuality.
How does Bordo do it? If you see the photographer's face, it all becomes clear: a beautiful person is always thought to be talented. When you see Ira's brilliant works first, her beauty becomes the answer to the question «Where does the talent come from?» Her own style of work always wins battles with labels leaving space for creativity.
Ira Bordo keeps silence about her biography letting her portfolio do the talking. She is very sicere about herself but only through her photographs. Answering the question «What is «No rush» about?» Ira says: «I guess it's about my imaginary world. When I see people who look different like time-travellers, I start to make up their stories. I wanted everyone to see these amazing otherworldly faces through my eyes».
