This exhibition is organised as part of Netherlands-Russia 2013. The title refers to the flower that grows in different colours from early spring. The exhibition offers an overview of different kinds of colour photography in Russia from the 1850s until the end of the twentieth century. The selection of more than two hundred works vary from coloured albumen prints, salt prints and collodion prints to gelatin silver prints and the first real colour photography. Recent practices by Anatoly Boldin and Boris Mikhailov are part of this extraordinary exhibition. Also featured are works by important photographers such as Dmitry Baltermants, Alexander Rodchenko and Ivan Shagin.
Primrose, Russian Colour Photography is organised as part of Netherlands-Russia 2013 by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, Moscow City Government, Moscow City Culture Department and the Moscow House of Photography. The exhibition is curated by Olga Sviblova and Elena Misalandi.
