For over six years now the musée du quai Branly in Paris has been giving the public the opportunity to discover work by contemporary photographers little known in Europe through PHOTOQUAI, World Image Biennial. Along the banks of the Seine and in the museum gardens the Photoquai Biennale gives visitors the chance to discover the world of non-Western photography.
As backup Frank Kalero has chosen eight curators, each an iconic figure in his or her own part of the world: John Fleetwood for Africa; Hester Keijser for the Near and Middle East; Shahidul Alam for Asia; Bohnchang Koo for China and the Far East; Liza Faktor for the Former Soviet Union; Claudi Carreras for Latin America; Alexander Supartono for Southeast Asia; and Anne Noble for Oceania. Forty photographers from all over the planet have been chosen for their original, sensitive vision of other people and their environments. I would like to express my gratitude to the artistic director and the associate curators for their work and the calibre of their selection.
