Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions are happy to announce an exciting sale of photographs and photobooks to suit all tastes and budgets with many works offered at No Reserve. Photo Opportunities, on February 28th, encompasses photographs from the 19th Century to the present day and includes an interesting selection of photobooks from across the world.
The sale begins with a selection of early travel photography from places such as India, the Middle East, North Africa, and Japan, a particular highlight being a group of eight landscapes by Felice Beato.
A grouping of 10 photogravures from Stieglitz's well-regarded photojournal Camera Work showcases the pictorialist movement in photography, followed by a collection of both vintage and modern prints by French photographers Eugène Atget, Brassai, Willy Ronis, Robert Doisneau and Edouard Boubat evoking Paris in the first half of the 20th Century.
In 1975, Kodak London held an exhibition entitled The Romantic Landscape. Nine photographs from this exhibition are included in the sale by well known photographers William A. Garnett, Mario Giacomelli, Minor White and others.
Post-war and later British photography also makes an appearance with names such as John Blakemore, Thurston Hopkins, Raymond Moore, Bert Hardy, and fashion photographer Norman Parkinson.
Many bargains are sure to be had within the No Reserve section that features vintage prints by Brassai, Charles Marville, Cecil Beaton and Ernst Haas whilst also including signed photographs by William Klein.
Both old and new photographs can be found in the section Girls!Girls!Girls! As the name suggests, portraiture, nude and fashion photographs are gathered here with a strong emphasis on 60s icons. Twiggy (by Lewis Morley), Jane Fonda, Brigitte Bardot, Jayne Mansfield (by Peter Basch), Grace Kelly (by Edward Quinn), Ursula Andress (by Terry O'Neill) amongst others, provide an excellent snapshot of the age. Another sale highlight is a selection of more than 20 twenty photographs of Marilyn Monroe taken by a variety of world-famous photographers such as Cecil Beaton, George Barris, Bert Stern and Milton Greene. They show the star in a range of poses at different stages of her life.
Contemporary icons Kate Moss and Cindy Crawford are also included in the sale, with three unique Polaroids of Moss taken by fashion legend Tom Ford before a Gucci show during Milan Fashion Week in 1996.
The auction ends with a diverse selection of photobooks from around the world including, from Japan, Daido Moriyama's Good Bye Photography.
Other photographers featured in the sale include Berenice Abbott, Julia Margaret Cameron, Man Ray, Frantisek Driktol, Helmut Newton, David Hockney, Annie Leibowitz, Bruce Weber and many many more.
The sale is on view at Bloomsbury House, Maddox Street, London from Sunday - Friday, 22-28th February
