MEGAN JENKINSON…a tent, pitched in the wilderness12 October to 12 November 2011The solace, or disquiet, we draw from the image of a tent pitched in the wilderness is of a comforting shelter, a safe retreat enhanced, or threatened, by its casual impermanence. It implies temporary respite from the constant movement of the nomad, explorer, or exile; allowing a perspective on the journeys that have passed and imaginings of the wanderings ahead.

The direction of Megan Jenkinson's recent work Fleet Light began with her experiences as a New Zealand Antarctic Artist's Fellow in late 2005. Before and after her time on the ice she immersed herself in the exploratory and scientific literature on Antarctica. That research took two parallel paths.
