Dark Wonder

Dark Wonder

8 Oct – 5 Nov 2016
Since 2013, acclaimed Sydney-based photographer Robyn Stacey has been transforming entire rooms into walk-in camera obscuras. Masking windows to leave just a ray of light, the view outside is projected, as if by magic, over the room’s interiors, but upside down and in reverse. This dream-like moving scene does the opposite of a shadow. It casts trees, drifting clouds, even towering buildings, over the internal architecture and its inhabitant’s belongings. “It’s …

GUEST RELATIONS

Empire line

Empire line

24 Sep – 24 Oct 2009
The products of much research, the works in this exhibition are made as echoes and resonances rather than programmatic illustrations of names, dates and events. Robyn Stacey's "Empire Line" not only talks about role of desire in the transport of taste and knowledge systems, but also reveals once again the ongoing fascination with and strength of the still life tradition. Craig Judd 2009 Empire Line catalogue essay Robyn Stacey's Empire Line combines traditional still-life …

Solo Exhibition

23 Jul – 24 Aug 2008
Robyn Stacey’s startling image Mr Macleay’s Fruit and Flora, seems at first glance to be a digital construct, it comprises such a baffling array of fruits and flowers. Yet there is an historical foundation underpinning this luscious assemblage. Stacey’s large-scale photograph re-creates the lost botanic gardens of Elizabeth Bay House, once world famous not only for the Australian natives but for the exotics imported from China, India, South America and the Cape of Good H…
