New digital video and photo works by the Guangzhou-based video artist Cao Fei.

Cosplayers played for the first time at the Shanghai Biennale 2004. The 8 minute digital video is a docu-drama about teenagers growing up in and around Guangzhou, who dress up like their favorite video game heroes. According to Cao Fei, "They expect their costumes will grant them true magical powers enabling the wearer to transcend reality and put themselves above all worldly and mundane concerns."more

Twenty-two artists from China will exhibit new works of "self-portraiture." We aim to stretch the limits of self-portrait to include a rich variety of modern interpretations of the self.

Ranging from tangible records of the artists' lives to visual explorations of identity, we hope to provide a framework to indulge in socially acceptable self-consciousness and artistic exchange.
