the photographers' room s.a.s., run by Marcello Comoglio, Lorenza Orlando and Co., located in Milan, operates as:
- a laboratory for post-production, fine art printing, digitisation of photographic archives and support for creating publishing and artistic projects.
- an international periodical library specialising in photography: a place where the public can read contemporary magazines. The periodical library project is also committed to organising events and initiatives that promote the circulation and discussion of the cultural and social content of its archive.
- a periodical library for environmental sustainability : the catalogue for the periodical library is currently under construction and is being supported by the "RAPI-labo" (laboratory of the environmental requirements of industrial processes) of the Politecnico di Milano.
the photographers' room website/blog was created to function as a tool of research, exchange, services and information.
The idea of the photographers' room arose from the conviction that study and research aimed at preserving the environment must have a place in every human activity, and that photography - especially photojournalism - is an essential tool for raising the awareness that informs every sustainable choice. It is our intention to encourage a 'contamination' between photography and environmental issues that has the power to trigger a virtuous cycle of knowledge, quality and culture.
To encourage the shared and intensive use of resources, the photographers' room offers the service of renting a post-production lab with access to a scanner (Imacon and Epson), a monitor Quato, and Epson Stylus Pro 7900 (A1) and 9900 (B0+) printers.
For its choices and for its growth - and for the choices and professional growth of its clients - the photographers' room relies on the counsel of a technical committee with expertise in several different fields, including contemporary art, web culture, cultural cooperation in Europe, and photography (Matteo Chini, Elisa Gusella, Conor Kilroe, Maresa Lippolis, Nicola Mullenger).
Lorenza Orlando graduated in 2000 with a degree in philosophy from the University of Pavia. She gained her experience in digital photography printing and photographic culture under Alex Majoli (MagnumPhotos), for whom she worked as an assistant for four years. She has also worked for other photographers and publishers (Trolley).
Marcello Comoglio, after studying and working in television and photography (Bauer, Milan), began his career in metalworking in 1993 with the construction of prototypes and small series production. He is a consultant for the design and production of objects in metal for furnishings, art, and industry. For several years he has been studying topics in Environmental Sustainability at the Politecnico di Milano.
