BEAUTY | Flowers in Photography

BEAUTY | Flowers in Photography

18 Apr – 30 May 2010
For contemporary photographers flowers are a perfect symbol of beauty and the transitoriness of life. The exhibition BEAUTY presents exceptional and fascinating works by eleven international artists. The focus is rather on abstract reproductions of nature than on botanical studies. Thomas Floerschütz examines flowers in the same way as with human bodies. Vera Mercer changes the colours of the flowers digitally after capturing them; Luzia Simons develops her own method of documentation: she scan… more

Mood is Never Better Than Memory

Mood is Never Better Than Memory

18 Apr – 30 May 2010
"Endless guessing, endless interruption, and endless memory; I don't know from which period of stillness to start once more, and from this start how to return to stillness again. Living in a mood, is it from yesterday or today? Many things pass by me, some are still vivid, while some are merely traces. Mood is never better than memory."

WHITE SPACE BEIJING presents the third solo exhibition of Chi Peng, with a selection from 2003 – 2010 in the vein of memories.

H2O

26 Jun – 29 Jul 2007
Miao Xiaochun has come back, down to earth. Back from the spheres of heaven, with figures floating in the detached and airy space that he so closely explored in his last large picture-series "The Last Judgement". And yet, it is not so much the firm and solid ground of earth that the Chinese photo-artist is interested in. He rather turns his attention towards an element which, at first sight, seems about as hard to grasp as the atmospheric range of the sky: water. However, the framework that he c… more

Journey to the West

Journey to the West

24 Apr – 17 Jun 2007
Chi Peng, barely in his mid-twenties and already an internationally recognised artist, is considered to be one of the most groundbreaking and innovative exponents of contemporary Chinese art avant-garde. This is due particularly to his superior handling digital photography and image-editing. He skilfully fuses actuality and fiction to an artistically generated pseudo-substantiality.

Chi Peng is a classical first-person narrator. Already in his early works he repeatedly became a figure and part… more

The Chinese artist Miao Xiaochun (*1964) has achieved prominence in recent years with his photography: his photographs have been shown at numerous biennials and are included in the collections of several museums in Europe and China. In his current work, he has turned to 3D technique to develop his very own interpretative rendition of Michelangelo's The Last Judgment.

The fresco in Rome's Sistine Chapel was painted from 1536 to 1541, and is one of the key works of Western art history. The blue b… more

"Up" is the impulse of 80's children's audacious consequence. They want to be "up", dare to go "up", chase "up".

There is no "down" in their dictionary and they look down on it. Maybe it has been deleted, or it is under shielding. This is the valiant of 80's generation. You have the rights to keep your judgment to love or not, however they will be here to stay.
