Prix Pictet has announced Human as the theme for the 10th cycle of the award. The announcement was made at a presentation at the Théâtre Antique of the work of Sally Mann, Prix Pictet Laureate, as part of Les Rencontres d’Arles photography festival.

The V&A unveils a major new photography commission by internationally-acclaimed artist Valérie Belin. Known for her monumental photographs exploring artifice, identify and representation, Belin has found inspiration inthe V&A’s photographs collectionfor hernew series Reflection. Richard Mosse, Prix Pictet 2017

The Irish-born photographer Richard Mosse has won the Prix Pictet award, for his series of black-and-white images entitled Heat Maps (2016-17). Now based in Leeds, Mosse used a military-grade thermal camera that detects body heat to depict sites on the journeys faced by migrants in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

Photojournalism 1930-1970 . Recent gifts to the V&A

Photojournalism emerged as a distinctive form of photography in the late 1920s and early 1930s. The term denoted picture making that was spontaneous, topical and rapid. This was facilitated by the introduction of small, hand-held cameras such as the Ermanox and the Leica, which enabled photographers to record fast-moving events and catch their subjects unawares.
