Cindy Sherman

Cindy Sherman

Cindy Sherman

29 Mar – 4 Aug 2024
Comprised of Cindy Sherman’s latest body of work, this exhibition features a series of improbable portraits that exemplify the morphing of self. The concept of identity as a construct is a central theme that runs throughout Sherman’s work; in this series the artist renders this notion even more perceptible by splicing together photographs of the individual parts of her own face into a set of collaged images. The result is a series of wholly asymmetric – and therefore seemingly distorted … more

BROKEN SPECTRE

3 Nov 2023 – 25 Feb 2024
Richard Mosse (Ireland, 1980) gained recognition for his socially committed documentaires often presented via immersive and monumental installations. He is known for his landscapes in shades of red and pink from the series Infra (2010) depicting the civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo. More recently, he has focused on migratory flows, which he captures with military thermal imaging cameras (The Castle, 2017, Incoming, 2018).more

Deborah Turbeville

PHOTOCOLLAGE

PHOTOCOLLAGE

3 Nov 2023 – 25 Feb 2024
The work of Deborah Turbeville (1932-2013) defies classification. The American photographer belonged to no school or movement. Her unique visual signature has been recognisable since she emerged as a major talent in the 1970s; a certain timelessness melancholy and a patina emanate from her haunting photographs taken over four decades.

This retrospective will present Turbeville's photographic explorations, from fashion photos to her very personal work.more

A LAKE IN THE EYE

3 Nov 2023 – 25 Feb 2024
A key figure in contemporary photography in Lausanne, Virginie Otth (Switzerland, 1971) presents four previously unseen works, as well as her first film. This monographic exhibition brings together works that combine the various interests and reflections that have animated the artist for many years, and which question the relationship to the fragmentary, lacunar and ever-renewed world offered by photography, but also by our gaze and our perception.more

Prix Elysée 2023

30 Jun – 1 Oct 2023
The work is in line with current events and is an important contribution that is timely, given the effect of fake news in our societies. Through her research, the artist questions the blurred line between truth and fiction. The project, which is both a political and intellectual commitment, points to the urgency and necessity of questioning photography as a proof. The impact of fake news is not limited to the United States – the artist is telling a local story that talks about global issues. W… more

Swiss Photography in the 19th Century

5 Nov 2022 – 29 Jan 2023
After being proclaimed a French invention in 1839 in Paris, photography quickly conquered all of Europe. Although the race for technical improvements began in the cultural centers, heavy cameras soon appeared in villages and the countryside, in remote valleys and in the mountains. In Switzerland, the emerging tourism industry played a key role in the new photography market. In addition to the interest in spectacular landscapes, the growing demand for portraits, early industrialization and large-… more

Polaroid in Peril !

Polaroid.... during the second half of the 20th century the name was synonymous with innovation in photography, and other domains besides (Who does not, or has not, owned a pair of Polaroid sunglasses?). Moreover, the Polaroid Corporation was innovative in ways beyond the impressive range of their products: realizing that artists would invent new 'applications' if encouraged to use Polaroid cameras and films, the company was generous with both. This exhibition brings together 80 photographs, most of which are very well-known, that have provoked legal proceedings or controversy. Photography, in every area and genre, has been subject to, and confronted by, laws and their interpretation ever since it was invented. Body Shops shows a series of spaces devoid of any human presence. These places, however, were specifically designed for the care of the human body. Contemporary society treats the body as an object that can be taken apart and put together again. From the time of birth to the moment of death, the body receives the utmost care and attention, be it in the use of make up, physical exercise, cosmetic surgery or autopsies. Although the body remains a major preoccupation for photographers today, it is … more

18 Jan – 24 Mar 2008
EDWARD STEICHEN
LIVES IN PHOTOGRAPHY

organisied by the Musée de l'Elysée, Lausanne
and the Foundation for the Exhibition of Photography, Minneapolis

Edward Steichen (1879-1973) is one of the most prolific, influential and controversial figures in the history of photography. An incessant innovator, he applied his talents to portraiture, the nude, landscape, cityscape, flowers, dance, theatre, fashion, advertising and war. Ray K. Metzker

Rétrospective

Rétrospective

14 Nov 2007 – 6 Jan 2008
Ray K. Metzker is recognized as one of the great masters of American photography, a virtuoso who has pursued his chosen medium passionately for fifty years. Even early in his career, Metzker's work was marked by unusual intensity. Drawing inspiration from the things around him, he was acutely perceptive in any environment. This retrospective at the Musée de l'Elysée reveals the full extent of a body of work still relatively unknown from the European public. Over 200 vintage prints are being sh… more

Loretta Lux

Solo Exhibition

14 Sep – 4 Nov 2007

Making Faces: The Death of the Portrait // Je t’envisage: La disparition du portrait

Making Faces: The Death of the Portrait // Je t’envisage: La disparition du portrait

4 Feb – 23 May 2004
